Having the right company install or repair your flooring is essential. Flooring installation is taken very seriously in the state of California, and all local flooring contractors must have a license for large jobs. If you hire a flooring installer for a large job and they are not certified or licensed, you risk your flooring installation not being done properly. If you hire an unlicensed installer for a commercial job, you could be risking safety violations that will require the job to be done again without compensation. We haven't even covered DIY; while it may not look it, flooring is surprisingly dangerous to install on your own and you need the right tools to get the job done right. You can rest assured knowing our flooring installers here at Master Flooring are licensed by the state of California and we ensure that all of our installation experts are up-to-date on all regulations and codes.

Common Signs of a Damaged Floor:
1) Cracks or seams in-between wooden floorboards.
Moisture content present in the boards can dry up in-between seasons and cause visible cracks or seams in-between the floorboards. This can be remedied with a flooring sealant, or by waiting it out. Most installations can avoid this problem, but if the wood quality or spacing is not right for the job this can become a serious problem. Cracks are permanent, but seams may expand back out. If they don't expand out after the weather changes, then you may be in need of a new floor (and floor installer).
2) Cupping or Crowning of wooden floor boards.
Cupping is when your flooring is not level and the ends of the boards are curled up, higher than the middle of the board. Crowning is the opposite of this, where the middle of the board is higher than the outside. This can be indicative of improper installation and poor quality wood, or a sudden moisture content change that may be the result of recent flooding and water leaks.
3) Hollow sounds in stone and tile flooring.
Hollow sounds in your stone flooring can indicate your flooring was improperly installed. You can test the sound by tapping a ball bearing to the stone. Sounds that are “off”, higher pitched and hollow sounding, often mean you have a void in the tile bond underneath. This could lead to later problems such as bowing, a cracking tile or even breakage.
4) Spongey or loose flooring.
This can occur with many different types of flooring such as bamboo flooring, hardwood flooring and laminate flooring as well as lesser known types. Stone is not very susceptible to it, as it will usually break before it flexes. It's easy to notice this kind of problem as the boards will creak and bounce under your foot as you step on or around it. This can be caused by a variety of problems, from poor installation to gaps in the sub-floor, or over-extension of the joint span.
